Tactical Breaching Instructor Program

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The SpringHill Suites, located at 1445 Crossways Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23320, is the host hotel. This is a brand new hotel that will open in September. Reservations can be made by calling Melissa Robles at 757-609-3034. Be sure to mention you will be attending the OpTac International Program to receive the special rate of $81 per night, for single or double occupancy rooms. Reservations must be made prior to October 10, 2008, to guarantee these rates.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (3 days):
The OpTac International Tactical Breaching Instructor Program will be held October 27-29, 2008, in Chesapeake, Virginia.

This program is designed to teach advanced breaching skills and properly prepare officers to instruct law enforcement personnel in this area. A strong emphasis will be placed on the development of a tactical breaching plan and the following breaching methods: ram, pry bar, hydraulic, and ballistic/shotgun. An overview of explosive entry techniques and exothermic torches will be presented. In addition, training and operational safety standards/protocol, identification of fortifications, locking mechanisms, innovative breaching equipment, and advanced instructional techniques will be covered. The cost to attend the OpTac International Tactical Breaching Instructor Program is $599 per person. There is limited space available, therefore paid reservations will be accepted on a priority basis.

Goals : Upon completion of this program, attendees will:

  • Understand training safety standards and protocols

  • Understand and be able to conduct reconnaissance to develop a tactical breaching plan
  • Understand and be able to perform manual, ballistic/shotgun, and hydraulic breaching
  • Have reviewed the use and operation of exothermic torches
  • Be able to identify different types of fortifications
  • Be able to understand and identify locking mechanisms
  • Understand the importance of selecting the most appropriate breaching tool based on the operational situation
  • Successfully complete the Tactical Breaching Instructor Program written examination, instructor presentation, and qualification.
